Khia Kurtenbach Named All-American as Chicago Competes at NCAA Championship

University of Chicago cross country runner Khia Kurtenbach closed out the season by earning All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.

Lake Breeze Golf Club served as the race site for the 558 runners competing at the NCAAs. It also marked the second time ever that both UChicago teams qualified for nationals in the same year.

The women's 6K was run first and featured 280 participants from 81 schools. Williams College won the national title with 81 points – a full 98 points better than the runner-up. UChicago took 18th with 490 points.

Kurtenbach was the top finisher for the Maroons and earned her first All-American award. The sophomore placed 25th in a time of 21:41.60. The UChicago women have recorded an All-American performance each year at nationals since 2010. Senior Brianna Hickey was the next runner across the line at 22:35.10 (136th place).
