Chicago Paces Third at NCAA Midwest Regional

The University of Chicago women's cross country team finished third at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday.

Individual and team national qualifiers will be chosen on Sunday to participate in next week's NCAA Division III Championships. The Maroon women are riding a five-year streak of qualifying for nationals.

In the women's 6K race, Washington University-St. Louis won the team title with 68 points scored. UChicago tied for third place with University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at 126 points, but the Maroons earned the tiebreaker. The race featured 40 teams and 272 runners.

Three UChicago women earned All-Region status after finishing in the top 35 individually. Sophomore Khia Kurtenbach was the third-fastest overall racer of the day, finishing in 21:20.7. Senior Brianna Hickey took 11th at 21:34.8 and sophomore Kelsey Dunn placed 28th with a time of 22:10.9. Hickey has achieved All-Region status in all four years of her collegiate career.
