Yellowjackets Place 8th At Geneseo Pre-Regional

The University of Rochester women's cross country team ran to a solid 8th place finish of 32 schools at the Mike Woods Geneseo Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Letchworth State Park.
 
Rochester accumulated 247 points in the race while host SUNY Geneseo won the team event scoring 56 points.  St. Lawrence was 2nd, RIT 3rd, RPI 4th, Dickinson 5th, Elizabethtown 6th and Ottawa was 7th.  The event was run on the same course that will host the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional later this season.
 
The Yellowjackets top three runners, senior Catherine Knox, junior Anne Peterson and senior Victoria Stepanova all crossed the finish line within five seconds of one another.  Knox placed in 36th in 22:51.1, Peterson was 38th in 22:52.5 and Stepanova ended up 41st in 22:55.4.
 
Junior Samantha Kitchen ran in 74th place, crossing the finish in 23:25.1 while classmate Audrey McCarthy wrapped up the UR's top-5 in 76th place (23:25.9).
 
The race displacers for the Yellowjackets were freshman Rachel Bargabos (87th, 23:32.9) and senior Anya Joynt (93rd, 23:38.3).
 
Overall, St. Lawrence's Megan Kellogg won the individual title, beating 452 other finishers in the race.
