Washington Races to AAE Invitational Title

The top-five runners for the Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team finished within 58 seconds of each other to lead the Bears to the team title at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh AAE Invitational Pre-National race at the Lake Breeze Golf Club Saturday.

Senior Ellen Toennies (11th) and sophomore Alison Lindsay (15th) posted top-15 finishes for the WashU women, who scored 136 points to win the team title by 29 points over runner-up Willamette University. The women's 6K race featured 46 teams, including 12 ranked in last week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings. Four of WashU's top-seven runners clocked career-best 6K times in the race.

A second set of races was also contested Saturday at the AAE Invitational. The WashU women finished first out of 21 teams in the Invitational race, scoring 35 points with four runners in the top-10 overall.
