Aparna Alavilli Leads Tartans at UAA Championships

The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team finished seventh at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 29 at McIntosh Reserve Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The Tartans accumulated 199 points at the 6k race hosted by Emory University.

Junior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) led the Tartans as she crossed the finish line eighth overall in a time of 22:13.27. Graduate student Shaheen Essabhoy (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was the next Tartan to finish when she crossed the finish line in 23:59.88 in 50th place. Fellow graduate student Priya Patel (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) was third for the Tartans and finished the race in 24:14.78.

Junior Rhiannon Farney (Winston Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) was 59th overall in 24:17.58, sophomore Allison Scibisz (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) was 61st in 24:22.55 and freshman Rachel Reolfi (North Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) was 64th overall in 24:33.34.

Alavilli earned All-UAA Second Team honors with her eighth-place finish.
