Emory Posts Second-Place Finish At Furman Classic

The Emory women's cross country team came through with a strong performance Saturday morning at the Furman Classic. The 6K race was held at the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina.

The No. 21-ranked Eagles came in second out of 17 teams in the Non-Division I competition, with 46 points. Montevallo University (AL) took home first-place honors with 39 points. Lee University was third, totaling 65 points while Anderson (106 pts.) and Mount Olive (131 pts.) rounded out the top five.

Junior Gabrielle Stravach (Westfield, NJ) paced the Emory pack with her personal-best time of 22:07 ranking third in the 156-runner field. Junior Megan Waples (Mequon, WI) was the second Eagle and seventh overall competitor to cross the finish line with her effort of 22:51 also establishing a personal best. Junior Tru Powell (Knoxville, TN) raced to a personal-best, clocking a 22:57 that slotted her ninth in the field. Sophomore Clare Ubsersax (Pepper Pike, OH) and senior Mia Eisenhandler (Nashua, NH) rounded out the team's scorers, registering marks of 23:05 and 23:08, respectively, that placed 13th and 14th. Winning the women's event was Cheyenne Thompson of Montevallo with a performance of 21:46.
