Emory Dominates In Season-Opening Meet

The Emory women's cross country team opened its 2016 campaign in dominating fashion Thursday evening at the Watermelon Run. The 6K race was held at the Clara Bowl Course and hosted by Berry College.

The No. 21-ranked Eagles registered a first-place finish out of six teams, registering 20 points, while host Berry placed second with 47 points. Rounding out the other programs were Piedmont College (93 pts.), Oglethorpe (113 pts.), Agnes Scott (147 pts.) and LaGrange (149 pts.).

The Eagles claimed four of the top five overall finishers, headlined by junior Grabrielle Stravach who paced the 74 runners after covering the course in a time of 23:24. Sophomore Clare Ubersax was the second Emory runner and third overall, clocking a 24:06. Senior Mia Eisenhandler (24:11) and junior Megan Waples (24:17) ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, while junior Tru Powell closed out the team's scorers in a time of 24:41 that placed seventh overall. A total of 27 Eagles took part in the competition.
