Violets Complete Purple Valley Classic

The New York University women's cross country team competed at the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College on Saturday, September 24. Contingents of the team either took part in the 5K or the 6K.

The Violets placed 12th in the 6K compiling 382 total points. They trailed Colby College by 27 points for 11th. SUNY Geneseo claimed the first-place victory (65).

Junior Erica Bohdan was NYU's first finisher in the 6K taking 73rd with a time of 23:52.3. Fellow classmate Megan Davis took 84th with a time of 24:02.9.

Only freshman Sidney Williams, junior Alexa Goldman and sophomore Anastasia Filimontseva participated in the 5K. The freshman secured seventh clocking a time of 20:46.7. The following pair placed 20th and 22nd, respectively, with times of 22:52.2 and 23:14.9.

"Sidney had a great race," said head Coach Erison Hurtault. "Bohdhan bounced back today. Lara Dorsky ran a pretty good race.Very competitive races today. We had to face most of the top-ten ranked teams."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Lara Dorsky finished in 108th (24:25.3) with senior Kassi Chrysanthopoulos in 111th (24:31.9).

- Juniors Emily Dethlefs and Morel Malcolm finished close together in 129th (24:51.2) and 131st (24:51.6).

- Senior Justine Morris placed 160th clocking a time of 25:21.0.

"We will look to improve the next couple of weeks," Hurtault said. "The good news is people are getting healthy. We are looking forward to the next few weeks of competition."
