Nicol Traynor Joins NYU Coaching Staff

From NYU Athletics

Nicol Traynor has joined the New York University men's and women's cross country and track & field staff as an assistant coach. She will help in all facets of the programs, with her primary focus being on the distance and mid-distance athletes.

Traynor comes to NYU after spending the last four years as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ.

"I am really excited to have someone with Nicol's experience come on board to help lead this team," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "She will be working primarily with the middle distance and distance runners, event areas in which she has excelled as an athlete. We were looking for someone who could be a great role model, was a hard worker and could fulfill all the duties of the role. In Nicol, we found all those things.

A 2012 graduate of the University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, Traynor had a successful four-year career competing for the Spiders' track & field team. She was a Second Team All-American in the 3,000m steeplechase as a junior and qualified for the NCAA Championships three times. A six-time Atlantic 10 champion, Traynor was named the conference's Most Outstanding Track Performer as a senior. Additionally, she was a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.

Traynor is still an active runner, competing with the New Jersey Track Club. Most recently, she ran in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2016 Olympic Trials Qualifier.

"I am really excited to have the opportunity to come on board at such a prestigious university," said Traynor. "I am looking forward to working with the middle distance and distance programs and having them compete at the highest levels. Erison has done a great job with the sprints in recent years, and I am looking forward to working with him to make both teams stronger all-around."

Traynor is a native and resident of Basking Ridge, NJ.
