Senior Captains Lead Rochester At NCAA Regionals

Led by senior captains Anne Peterson and Samantha Kitchen, the University of Rochester women's cross country team ended in 7th place at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships at Rowan University on Saturday.

Peterson finished in 10th place while Kitchen wound up 19th in the race which featured over 300 runners.  The senior combo finished in 21:13.4 and 21:43.3 for the six kilometer race respectively.

Overall, Rochester's top-5 runners all finished in the top third of the field as the Yellowjackets accumulated 192 team points to finish seventh of 43 teams.  SUNY Geneseo took the team title with 90 points in the race while SUNY Oneonta (112 pts) and Rensselaer (121 pts) were second and third.  Amy Regan of Stevens Institute of Technology was the overall race winner, finishing the course in 20:05.1.

UR's third and fourth finishers were sophomore Rachel Bargabos and senior Audrey McCarthy who were 38th and 39th respectively.  Bargabos crossed the finish in 22:09.9 and McCarthy was right behind her in 22:11.3.  The final scorer for the Yellowjackets was junior Ayumi Yuasa who finished in 22:57.2, good for 86th place.

The displacers on Saturday were sophomore Ariane Hasbrouck (110th, 23:09.6) and junior Clara Wolfe (112th, 23:18.0).
