From Washington University Athletics
The women's cross country team of Washington University in St. Louis finished as the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship runner-up during Saturday morning's 6K race at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. The men placed fourth overall.
The Bears women scored 202 points, second only to Johns Hopkins University's 128 score. Juniors Aly Wayne and Alison Lindsay led the way for the Bears, finishing within the top-15 times to earn All-American status. Overall the Bears had five runners score within the top 100 times in a field of more than 300 runners. Rounding out the top five for the women's race were SUNY Geneseo (214), Williams College (232) and MIT (234).
WashU's men were led by senior Ryan Becker's 16th place finish and junior David O'Gara's 29thplace time, as both earned All-American honors finishing within the top-35 times. In just his second race of the season, Becker finished with a season best time of 24:40.8. O'Gara crossed the finish line in 24:51.0. The men had four runners place within the top-100 times.
North Central College (60), Geneseo (204), University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (209), WashU (216) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (251) were the top five teams in the men's 8K race.
The two top five finishes rank as head coach Jeff Stiles third time in his career that both the men's and women's teams placed within that threshold (2011, '14, '16).
The WashU women claimed their ninth top-four finish in school history during the cross country championship (2002, '04, '05, 06', '07, '10, '11, '14, '16).
