The Washington University women's cross country program ran to a first place finish at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's John Flamer Invitational which featured multiple Division I programs on Saturday morning.
Junior Aly Wayne led all women runners regardless of Division completing the course in 22:00.98, topping SIUE's Haley Miller.
The WashU women led the field with 18 points with seven of the top eight times and finished with a lower team time than Division I SIUE and Saint Louis University. The Bears collective time of 1:53:20.84 were more than a minute faster than SIUE's 1:54:56.81. Saint Joseph's College (47) and Missouri Baptist University (77) trailed the Bears amongst the Division III competition during the women's six kilometer race.
"Both teams ran with a lot of grit," said head coach Jeff Stiles. "Both teams have a long way to go, but we got better today and this put us in a good position moving forward."
This is the third straight season the WashU women have won the John Flamer Invitational.
