CWRU Wins Sudeck Sunset Classic Stampede

With five runners among the top-eight finishers at the meet, the Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team claimed the team championship at the 2017 Sudeck Sunset Classic Stampede on Friday at the Squire Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio.

The Spartans finished with a score of 26 at the meet, with their runners finishing second, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth, to earn the team victory.  John Carroll University finished second with 39 points, followed by Albion College (64 points) and Ursuline College (108 points).

For the second-straight season, senior co-captain Danielle Kulpins paced the Spartans at the meet, finishing the 4,000-meter race in second place with a time of 15:15.9.  Sophomore Madeline Lindemann had a breakout performance, finishing fourth with a time of 15:38.2, and senior Rachel Laveson claimed a fifth-place finish with a mark of 15:44.9.  Rounding out the Spartans' scoring finishers were juniors Isa Torres-Padin in seventh-place with a time of 15:50.2 and Jennifer Hoffmann in eighth-place with a time of 15:53.2.

Other Case Western Reserve runners to place in the top-20 at the meet included sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn (13th, 16:03.5), freshman Kiera Olson (15th, 16:14.5), freshman Olivia Battistoni (16th, 16:15.0), senior co-captain Claire Plunkett (17th, 16:19.1) and sophomore Catherine Lawton (18th, 16:29.8).

Albion's Cassie Vince finished first at the meet, setting a course record with a time of 14:43.6.  It marked the third-straight season that the record has fallen at the meet, after Kulpins set the previous record last year with a time of 15:02.
