Emory Places Third At UAA Championship

From Emory University Athletics

The No. 29-ranked Emory women's cross country team posted a third-place finish Saturday morning at the 31st Annual University Athletic Association Championships. The event was held at the Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, New Jersey.

The Eagles finished the competition with 107 points.  Taking home the top spot was No. 7-ranked Washington University who defended its title with 37 points, well ahead of No. 15 Chicago's runner-up total of 74 points. Carnegie Mellon (116 pts.) and New York University (128 pts.) rounded out the top five.

Senior Gabrielle Stravach once again paced the Emory contingent, crossing the finish line in the No. 2 overall position out of 76 runners with a 6k time of 23:14.  It represented the fifth straight race this season and 12th since the 2016 campaign that she ranked as the squad's top runner.  Stravach's effort enabled her to land First Team All-UAA honors, Emory's first such honoree since 2014 (Tamara Surtees).

Junior Kayla O'Shea (24:55) and freshman Susie Martin (24:56) were the Eagles' second and third finishers, respectively, with their times slotting them 25thand 26th in the field.  Junior Kaylee Slade clocked a 25:03, which was good for 28th position, while freshman Abby Durfee rounded out the team's scorers with her mark of 25:08 placing 30th overall.
