NYU Takes the Fifth at UAA Championship

The New York University women's cross country team finished in fifth place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, which was held at Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, NJ, on Saturday, October 28.

The Violets totaled 128 points, one point ahead of the sixth-place finisher, Brandeis University.

Washington University in St. Louis captured the title with 37 points, while the University of Chicago placed second with 74.

NYU's first runner across the finish line was Sabrina Herrmann, who took sixth overall with a time of 23:59.8 over the 6K course. Khia Kurtenbach of Chicago won the 76-person race with a time of 23:04.7

"Sabrina continues to impress," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "She is going to be one of the game-changers for our program and we're we're excited to have her for another year. The sky's the limit for her."

Also finishing within the top-20 for NYU was Hannah Haley, who took 15th place with a time of 24:20.5.

Next across the line for the Violets was Isabella Steains, who finished in 27th place in a time of 25:01.1. Also scoring for NYU were Emily Dethlefs (43rd place, 25:34.5) and Megan Davis (45th, 25:43.4).

"I'm extremely happy with the way the race went," said Hurtault. "We talked last night, and they gave me the impression that they would take a big step today. We have some of the best teams in the country in the UAA, and I'm very excited about our prospects going forward."
