From Washington University Athletics
The Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team placed fifth overall in the Principia College Cowbell Classic on Saturday morning, during a hot and humid race on the North Farm Cross Country Course.
The women finished in fifth place out of 36 teams in competition of which 15 were listed on the latest USTFCCCA Top-35 list. No. 1-ranked Johns Hopkins placed first narrowly edging out No. 3 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) by two points. No. 4 Geneseo, No. 24 Wheaton and No. 2 WashU completed the top-five scores.
The women were led by senior Alison Lindsay's season-best time of 22:35.81 during the 6K. Senior Audrey Western (22:40.56) finished about five seconds behind Lindsay while junior Ellie Degen (22:57.10) and senior Mattie Gottbrath (23:06.21) ended the race within the top-50 runners.
Closing out the women's scoring times was senior Anna Maurer (23:09.95) as she finished in 52nd place while the Bears combined for four times within the 50-60 range. Freshmen Annemarie Michael (23:12.83) and Lara Rix (23:13.37) as well as junior Jeri Glicksman (23:15.42) crossed the finish line within the top-60 runners out of 332 competitors to finish the race.
