Washington University Women's Cross Country Claims First Place at Midwest Regional

The No. 2-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team battled through frigid snowy conditions to capture first during NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship.

The WashU women placed first out of 36 teams in competition, including five additional U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) top-35 teams. The Bears totaled 58 points while No. 9-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire placed second with 93. No. 22-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse totaled 101 points, No. 11 Chicago totaled 118 points and No. 7 Wheaton (Ill.) scored 147 points to round out the women's top five.

All seven of WashU's women to compete earned Midwest All-Region honors by placing in the top-35. The lineup was led by junior Paige Lawler's second place finish with a time of 21:23.2. Junior Sophie Watterson (22:00.6) and graduate Aly Wayne (22:03.0) posted top-10 times, placing sixth and seventh respectively.

Rounding out the Bears top-five times were senior Lisa Gorham (22:14.7) and sophomore Megan Girmscheid (22:47.6). They placed 13th and 30th, while WashU's sixth and seventh runners earned All-Region honors as well with freshman Gabby McGinn's (22:55.0) 33rd place finish and sophomore Katie Snodgrass' (22:59.8) 35th place effort.
