Athletes of the Week for January 6, 2020

Women’s Basketball

Abbey Lawrence  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  West Caldwell, NJ (Newark Tech)

Case Western Reserve University sophomore guard Abbey Lawrence averaged 22.0 points per game, shooting 58.1 percent (18-for-31) from the field and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from three-point range in two Spartans’ wins. She hit 10 of 13 field goals, scoring 24 points in a 95-70 victory over The College of Wooster, and totaled 20 points in a 71-51 win over Chatham College.

Men’s Basketball

Jack Nolan  —  Washington University  —  Downers Grove, IL (Benet Academy)

Washington University junior guard Jack Nolan scored a career-high 31 points, hitting five 3-pointers, in the Bears’ 97-88 win at 23rd-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University. In a 1-1 week for the Bears, Nolan averaged 22.5 points, totaling seven 3-pointers, shooting 48.6 percent from the field, and hitting all four of his free throw attempts.

Men’s Fencing

Ian Sanders  —  NYU  —  Wilton, CT (Wilton)

NYU’s epee team of freshman Ian Adler, sophomores Liam Carpenter and Reis Gordon, and junior Ian Sanders captured the bronze medal at the Junior North America Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday. The foursome posted victories over Rockland Fencing Club (45-33), Marx Fencing Academy (45-32), and the Medeo Fencing Club (45-44) before falling to Ohio State University (45-41) in the semifinals of the 41-team event.

Wrestling

Kyle Peisker  — University of Chicago  —  Elk Grove, IL (Conant)

Senior Kyle Peisker of University of Chicago posted a 3-0 record at 174 pounds at the D3 National Challenge at Case Western Reserve University on Saturday. He tallied two technical falls and one pin against opponents from eighth-ranked Alma College, CWRU, and 22nd-ranked Millikin University.

They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
