Athletes of the Week for March 16, 2021

Baseball - Hitter

Jonathan Simon  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Fox Chapel Area)

Sophomore first baseman Jonathan Simon batted .500 (5-for-10) as Case Western Reserve University opened its season with a doubleheader home sweep over Hiram College. He went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, and one run batted in during a 9-2 Spartans’ win in the first game. Simon added two hits and another RBI in a 6-5 second-game victory.

Robby Wacker  —  Emory University  —  Greenville, NC (J.H. Rose)

Robby Wacker finished 3-for-5 with four runs batted in, falling just a triple short of hitting for the cycle, in a 13-12 Emory win over Huntingdon College in the season-opener. The junior added a double and run scored in the nightcap, finishing the doubleheader 4-for-9 with three extra base hits.

Baseball - Pitcher

Ryan Loutos  —  Washington University  —  Barrington, IL (Barrington)

Senior pitcher Ryan Loutos posted a two-hit shutout over seven innings in a 7-0 Washington University victory over University of Dubuque. He did not walk a batter and struck out 12.

Women’s Golf

Caraline Oakley  —  Washington University  —  Southampton, NY (Southampton)

Washington University first-year golfer Caraline Oakley began her collegiate career by earning medalist honors in the 63-player field at the Millikin University Dechert Classic. She fired a two-round score of seven-over par 151. Oakley carded four birdies and 21 pars.

Men’s Golf

Max Schwarz  —  Emory University  —  Paradise Valley, AZ (Brophy College Prep)

Emory University junior Max Schwarz tied for medalist honors as Emory University placed fifth of 14 teams at the season-opening Tiger Invitational in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He shot a seven-under par 137, which tied two others for the lowest score in Eagles’ history in a 36-hole competition. Schwarz posted a three-under par 69 on the opening day before tying his career-best with a 68 in the second round.

Softball - Hitter

Krista Colussi  —  Emory University  —  Nazareth, PA (Nazareth)

Junior catcher Krista Colussi recorded six hits in seven at bats as Emory University began its season with a doubleheader split at Covenant College. She finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the Eagles’ 15-4 victory in the first game. Colussi followed that by hitting 3-for-3 with a double, run scored, and run batted in.

Softball - Pitcher

Holly Stoner  —  Washington University  —  La Cañada, CA (La Cañada)

Junior pitcher Holly Stoner earned her first win of the season in a 10-5 Washington University win over Westminster College, yielding just three hits and one run in 5.2 innings. She finished the week 1-1 with a 4.90 earned run average as the Bears fell to 20th-ranked Wartburg College.

Women’s Tennis

Megan Qiang  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Cleveland, OH (Hathaway Brown School)

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Megan Qiang finished a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles in shutouts of Grove City College and Franciscan University. She did not surrender a game at No. 6 and No. 5 singles matches and teamed with Farida Abdelmoneum for an 8-0 victory over Grove City at third doubles and an 8-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles versus Franciscan.

Men’s Tennis

Scott Altmeyer  —  Washington University  —  Princeton, NJ (Princeton Day School)

Washington University graduate student Scott Altmeyer picked up a pair of wins against NCAA Division I University of Memphis. The Colby College graduate transfer teamed with Abhi Ramireddy for a 6-4 win at first doubles and earned a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.


Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
