Athletes of the Week for May 3, 2021

Baseball - Hitter

Benjamin Stawicki  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Aurora, OH (Aurora)

Case Western Reserve University senior outfielder Benjamin Stawicki drove in seven runs in the Spartans’ sweep of Franciscan University on Sunday. He finished the day 6-for-8 with two runs scored and three doubles. Stawicki doubled twice, recorded four hits, and drove in four in an 11-4 Spartans’ victory in the first game and followed that with two more hits and three RBI in a 17-6 win in the nightcap.

Baseball - Pitcher

Ryan Loutos  —  Washington University  —  Barrington, IL (Barrington)

Washington University senior hurler Ryan Loutos tossed 6.1 innings of shutout ball in the Bears’ 5-0 blanking of Wabash College. He yielded five hits, walked one, and struck out nine batters to move his season record to 8-1.

Women’s Golf

Caraline Oakley  —  Washington University  —  Southampton, NY (Southampton)

Washington University first-year golfer Caraline Oakley earned her second individual medalist honors at the Augustana College Viking Invitational. She shot a two-round total of 10-over par 154, recording two birdies and 23 pars.

Men’s Golf

Declan Hickton  —  University of Rochester  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Sewickley Academy)

University of Rochester senior Declan Hickton placed third in the 30-team field in a New York State tournament over the weekend. He carded rounds of 74 and 72 to lead the Yellowjackets to a runner-up finish. Hickton, who earned his fifth consecutive top-five finish (in five tournaments) this season, ranked second in the field with seven birdies.

Softball - Hitter

Ashley Kennedy  —  Washington University  —  Tinley Park, IL (Tinley Park)

Ashley Kennedy of Washington University batted .750 (9-of-12) with three runs scored and five runs batted in during the Bears’ 3-1 week. The first-year player finished 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI as the Bears completed a sweep of Coe College with a 5-4 victory in the second game of a doubleheader. Kennedy went 7-for-8 with two runs scored and three RBI in a split with Fontbonne University.

Softball - Pitcher

Scotty McGee  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Huntington Beach, CA (Huntington Beach)

Junior right-handed pitcher Scotty McGee threw a complete game shutout in a 5-0 Carnegie Mellon University win over Oberlin College on Sunday. She scattered three hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out eight in tossing her fourth shutout of the season.

Women’s Tennis

Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico  —  Emory University  —  Pinecrest, FL (Gulliver Preparatory)

Emory University senior Ysabel Gonalez-Rico finished a combined 3-1 record in singles in doubles as the Eagles swept Washington University and dropped a match to the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Georgia Gwinnett College. She and classmate Katie Chang remained unbeaten at No. 1 doubles with a pair of 8-3 victories. She dropped her No. 1 singles match against Georgia Gwinnett in three sets before sweeping the Bears’ Ally Persky, 6-4, 6-2.

Men’s Tennis

Ethan Hillis  —  Washington University  —  Centennial, CO (Cherry Creek)

Washington University senior Ethan Hillis posted a combined 4-0 mark in singles and doubles as the Bears ran their winning streak to 11 with wins over UAA rival and most recent NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship titlist Emory University and Sewanee: The University of the South. He teamed with Gaurav Singh at No. 3 doubles for an 8-2 win against Sewanee and 8-4 over the Eagles. Hillis dropped a total of nine games in four sets at No. 1 singles, capping the weekend with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the Eagles’ Hayden Cassone.

Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

Annika Urban  —  Emory University  —  Pittsburgh, PA (Fox Chapel)

Emory University sophomore Annika Urban topped her own school record in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday at the University of Georgia Torrin Lawrence Memorial. She shaved nearly 11 seconds off her previous best with a time of 17:03.81, which ranks 11th in NCAA Division III this season.

Rebekah Bondi  —  Emory University  —  Collegeville, PA (Perkiomen Valley)

Emory University senior Rebekah Bondi broke the program long jump record with the top mark in NCAA Division III this season on Friday at the University of Georgia Torrin Lawrence Memorial. She jumped 5.81 meters to set the record. Bondi also helped the Eagles’ 1,600-meter relay team to its first sub-four minute time of the season in 3:58.16, which ranks 24th in NCAA Division III this season.

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field

Spencer Moore  —  Emory University  —  Rochester, MN (Mayo)

Emory University junior Spencer Moore recorded the seventh-fastest time in NCAA Division III in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the University of Georgia Torrin Lawrence Memorial on Saturday. He ran a time of 9:17.26, which is the fourth-fastest in program history.

JonCarlo Migaly  —  Emory University  —  Chapel Hill, NC (East Chapel Hill)

Emory University freshman JonCarlo Migaly registered a pair of personal-best times and helped the Eagles’400-meter relay team to a season-best performance at the University of Georgia Torrin Lawrence Memorial this weekend. His mark of 7.11 meters in the long jump ranks 15th in NCAA Division III this season. Migaly clocked a time of 10.95 seconds in the 100-meter dash and ran the leadoff leg of the 400 relay that posted a time of 42.21.

 

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
