Athletes of the Week for September 9, 2019

Women’s Cross Country

Claire Brockway  —  University of Chicago  —  Colorado Springs, CO (Rampart)

University of Chicago senior Claire Brockway led the Maroons to a runner-up finish at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational on Friday. She covered the five-kilometer course in 18:35.4 to place fifth in the 119-runner field.

Men’s Cross Country

David Hall  —  Case Western Reserve University —  Stow, OH (Stow-Munroe Falls)

Case Western Reserve University senior David Hall placed 18th of 218 runners at the Calvin College Knight Invitational on Saturday. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:43.2, leading the Spartans to third place in the 24-team event.

Football – Offense

Johnny Davidson  —  Washington University  —  Inverness, IL (Barrington)

Senior quarterback Johnny Davidson completed 26 of 38 passes for 341 yards and a career-tying five touchdowns to lead Washington University to a 43-7 win at University of Chicago. He completed 24 of 35 passes for 250 yards and four scores to lead the Bears to a 30-7 halftime lead.

Football – Defense

Jarrod Huther  —  Washington University  —  Sanger, TX (Sanger)

Senior linebacker Jarrod Huther recorded 15 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and forced a fumble in a 43-7 Washington University victory at University of Chicago. He and the Bears’ defense limited the Maroons to 278 yards of total offense.

Football – Special Teams

Michael Amadio  —  Case Western Reserve University —  Charlotte, NC (William Amos Hough)

Junior Michael Amadio scored his first career touchdown as Case Western Reserve University defeated host University of Rochester, 37-6. He recovered a blocked punt and returned it 12 yards for a score with 8:42 left in the first quarter.

Women’s Golf

Sam Haubenstock  —  Washington University  —  Weston, FL (Pine Crest School)

Washington University senior Sam Haubenstock earned co-medalist honors with teammate Annie Mascot as the Bears shot a 36-hole program record to win the Rhodes College Classic in Memphis. She fired a two-day total of 139 (66-73), tying the program’s single-round record in the opening round.

Men’s Golf

Robbie Keyes  —  NYU  —  Louisville, KY (duPont Manual)

NYU sophomore Robbie Keyes shot a one-under par 143 to lead the Violets to the team title at the 11-team St. Lawrence University Invitational. He shot rounds of 71 and 72 to finish third individually.

Women’s Soccer – Offense

Juliette Carreiro  —  Brandeis University  —  Upton, MA (Nipmuc Regional)

Brandeis University sophomore Juliette Carreiro netted four goals and added an assist in a 2-0 week for the Judges. She scored in the 13th and 50th minutes for her first two-goal game in a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater State University. Carreiro duplicated the feat on Saturday and assisted on the first goal in the Judges’ 7-0 rout of Johnson & Wales University.

Women’s Soccer – Defense

Bailey George  —  Case Western Reserve University  —  Loveland, OH (Loveland)

Case Western Reserve University junior defender Bailey George led the Spartans’ defense that posted back-to-back shutouts over Hiram College and Penn State Behrend. In the 4-0 victory over Hiram Wednesday, George anchored the defense that did not allow a single shot on goal.

Men’s Soccer – Offense

Kameron Bloye  —  University of Chicago  —  Allen Park, MI (University of Detroit Jesuit)

University of Chicago freshman Kameron Bloye scored the game-winning goal as the Maroons upended 21st-ranked North Park University, 3-1. His goal in the 51st minute gave Chicago its first lead of the match.

Men’s Soccer – Defense

Alistair Shaw  —  Washington University —  Menlo Park, CA (Menlo School)

Washington University sophomore back Alistair Shaw anchored the Bears’ back line in a 2-0 home win over Pacific Lutheran University. Shaw and the defense limited the Lutes to five shots for the game, including just three on goal.

Women’s Tennis

Danna Taylor  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Orlando, FL (Circle Christian School)

Sophomore Danna Taylor posted a 5-1 record at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational as the Tartans competed against NCAA Division I Duquesne University. She earned three singles wins, including a pair in straight sets, and won two doubles matches with different partners.

Men’s Tennis

Tanmay Thakkar  —  University of Rochester  —  Mumbai, India (SVKM International)

Senior Tanmay Thakkar of University of Rochester captured the “B” flight singles competition at the St Lawrence University Fall Classic. He won all four of his singles matches, coming back for a three-set victory in the semifinals and then taking the final in straight sets.

Volleyball

Erika Foose  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Allentown, PA (Parkland)

Carnegie Mellon University senior middle blocker Erika Foose hit .484 with 2.36 kills and 1.36 blocks per set to earn Most Valuable Player honors at the Juniata College ASICS Invitational. She hit .467
(8-1-15), and contributed five service aces and nine blocks in the Tartans’ four-set win over 15th-ranked Ithaca College. Foose finished the weekend hitting .421, with nine kills and four blocks in a four-set win against the third-ranked hosts.

Tara Martin  —  Emory University  —  Jacksonville Beach, FL (Episcopal School of Jacksonville)

Emory University sophomore outside hitter Tara Martin earned co-Most Valuable Player honors at the Berry College National Invitational after leading the top-ranked Eagles to a 3-0 record. She hit .333 with 3.20 kills and 1.40 digs per set. Martin totaled 15 kills and five digs as the Eagles battled back from a
13-9 deficit in the deciding set to defeat host Berry in five sets.

Emma Griffith  —  University of Chicago  —  New York, NY (Calhoun)

University of Chicago junior setter Emma Griffith averaged 11.11 assists and 3.22 digs per set to lead the 13th-ranked Maroons to a 3-0 weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan University Classic. She earned all-tournament honors as Chicago did not drop a set.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
