Athletes of the Week for October 21, 2019

Women’s Cross Country

Paige Lawler  — Washington University  —  Lexington, MA (Lexington)

Washington University senior Paige Lawler was the top collegiate runner at the KollegeTown Sports Invitational with a time of 21:39.3. She led the Bears to a successful defense of the team title at the 35-team event that featured six other nationally ranked squads.

Men’s Cross Country

Matt Karee  — Carnegie Mellon University —  Elmira, NY (Notre Dame)

Carnegie Mellon University junior Matt Karee led the Tartans to their fourth team title of the season at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Border Battle. He finished the eight-kilometer course in 24:27.1, placing fifth overall out of 256 harriers.

Football – Offense

Drew Saxton  — Case Western Reserve University  —  South Fayette, PA (South Fayette)

Sophomore Drew Saxton completed 30 of 51 passes for 420 yards and four touchdowns to lead Case Western Reserve University to a 34-26 win at Saint Vincent College. He connected with junior wide receiver Colt Morgan for two scores in the first half, and Saxton caught a 19-yard pass on a reverse in the second quarter.

Vittorio Tricase  —  University of Chicago  —  Carol Stream, IL (Glenbard North)

Junior running back Vittorio Tricase rushed seven times for 143 yards and three touchdowns in University of Chicago’s 56-7 victory at Cornell College. He averaged 20.4 yards per rush and set a program record with a 95-yard rushing touchdown.

Football – Defense

Graham Repp  —  University of Chicago  —  Lake Bluff, IL (Loyola Academy)

Junior linebacker Graham Repp registered nine tackles and two sacks in a 56-7 University of Chicago victory over Cornell College. The Maroons limited Cornell to 100 yards rushing on 33 carries.

Football – Special Teams

Mike Martinson  —  University of Chicago —  Brea, CA (Brea-Olinda)

Junior running back Mike Martinson averaged 19.4 yards per punt return, including a long of 59 yards, as University of Chicago routed Cornell College, 56-7. He totaled 97 yards and five punt returns and added a kickoff return for 33 yards. Martinson also rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown.

Women’s Golf

Annie Mascot  —  Washington University  —  Agoura Hills, CA (Agoura)

Washington University first-year golfer Annie Mascot set a 54-hole program record en route to claiming medalist honors at the Arkansas State University Lady Red Wolves Classic. She fired a three-day score of five-under par 211 (70-71-70) in the 56-player event. Mascot broke the previous Bears’ record of 219, set by Connie Zhou in the 2013-14 season.

Men’s Golf

Jason Li  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Sewickley, PA (Sewickley Academy)

Carnegie Mellon University junior Jason Li broke three program records and finished fifth in the 90-player field at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational. He shot the lowest round (66), lowest two-round (135), and lowest three-round (206) scores in Tartans’ history on the par 71, 6,725-yard Raven Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida.

Women’s Soccer – Offense

Caroline Kolski  — Emory University  —  Miami, FL (Ransom Everglades)

Emory University senior Caroline Kolski scored one game-winner and assisted on another as the Eagles picked up two UAA road wins. She netted the first goal in a 2-0 win at Case Western Reserve University on Friday and assisted on the goal in a 1-0 Eagles’ victory at Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday.

Ellie DeConinck  — Washington University  —  Bloomfield Hills, MI (Marian)

Washington University junior forward Ellie DeConinck scored one game-winner and assisted on another as the Bears earned a pair of UAA road wins. She netted a goal in the 89th minute in a 1-0 win at Brandeis University on Sunday. DeConinck assisted on the game-winner in the 74th minute of a 2-1 victory at 21st-ranked NYU on Friday.

Women’s Soccer – Defense

Haley Pratt  —  Emory University  —  Charlotte, NC (Ardrey Kell)

Emory University senior Haley Pratt made a combined 14 saves in back-to-back road shutouts over Case Western Reserve University and Carnegie Mellon University. She made five stops in a 2-0 Eagles’ win over the Spartans on Friday before making a career-best nine saves in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over the Tartans.

Men’s Soccer – Offense

Alex Dziadosz  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Boxford, MA (Phillips Academy Andover)

Carnegie Mellon University senior midfielder Alex Dziadosz scored both goals in the Tartans’ 2-0 home win over University of Rochester to secure their first UAA win of the season. He scored in the 30th minute and then added a late goal to double the lead.

Men’s Soccer – Defense

Aaron Katsimpalis  —  University of Chicago  —  Harrison Township, MI (L’Anse Creuse)

University of Chicago goalkeeper Aaron Katsimpalis shut out a pair of UAA opponents over the weekend as the fifth-ranked Maroons took sole possession of first place. He made eight saves in a 1-0 victory at NYU on Sunday after making two saves in a 1-0 Maroons’ win at Brandeis University on Friday.

Women’s Tennis

Lauren Park  —  University of Chicago  —  La Cañada, CA (Polytechnic)

Sophomore Lauren Park of University of Chicago reached the semifinals of the ITA Cup singles bracket. She finished 2-1 with wins over opponents from NYU and defending NCAA Division III champion Wesleyan University. Park finished the fall with a 13-1 record.

Men’s Tennis

Matthew Chen  — Case Western Reserve University  —  Wynnewood, PA (Lower Merion)
James Hopper  — Case Western Reserve University  —  Montgomery, NJ (Montgomery)

Junior Matthew Chen and freshman James Hopper of Case Western Reserve University won the Division III doubles draw at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. The third-seeded tandem ran off four consecutive wins, including three-set victories over opponents from Williams College and University of Redlands in the semifinals and final, respectively. Hopper also finished fifth in the singles draw.

Volleyball

Morgan McKnight  —  Emory University  —  Manassas, VA (Flint Hill)

Emory University senior Morgan McKnight averaged 3.86 kills and hit .338 in a 3-1 week for the Eagles, who earned the second seed in the UAA Volleyball Championship. She recorded 14 kills and became the 19th player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau. McKnight recorded a match-high 18 kills in a four-set win over host Case Western Reserve University, and totaled 13 kills and six digs in a four-set loss to third-ranked University of Chicago.

Fredericka Paulson  —  University of Chicago  —  Austin, TX (Westlake)

University of Chicago junior outside hitter Fredericka Paulson led the third-ranked Maroons to three wins, including victories over fourth-ranked Carthage College and top-ranked Emory University. She posted 19 kills and 15 digs against Carthage in a four-set Maroons’ win on Tuesday and contributed 10 kills in a four-set win over the Eagles.

Emma Griffith  —  University of Chicago  —  New York, NY (Calhoun)

University of Chicago junior setter Emma Griffith averaged 11.64 assists and 2.82 digs per set as the Maroons earned the top seed for the UAA Championship, posting two wins over top-four teams. She recorded 47 assists and 11 digs in a four-set win over fourth-ranked Carthage College on Tuesday, and finished the week with 49 assists and 10 digs in a four-set Maroons’ victory over top-ranked Emory University.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Clio Hancock  —  Emory University  —  Evanston, IL (Evanston Township)

Sophomore Clio Hancock registered one of two Emory University event wins in the season-opening meet against NCAA Division II powerhouse Queens University of Charlotte. She captured the 500-yard freestyle in 5:05.98, while adding runner-up finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.42) and 200-yard individual medley (2:07.75).

Maddie Mianzo  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Pittsburgh, PA (North Allegheny)

Junior Maddie Mianzo of Carnegie Mellon University earned a first- and fourth-place finish in the diving events at the Kenyon College Relays over the weekend. She won the one-meter board with a score of 226.60 and placed fourth in the three-meter dive with a mark of 228.10.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Nicholas Goudie  —  Emory University  —  Atlanta, GA (Atlanta International School)

Freshman Nicholas Goudie recorded one of two Emory University event wins in the season-opening meet against NCAA Division II powerhouse Queens University of Charlotte. He won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.95 seconds, added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle (46.58 seconds), and swam on the runner-up 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.

James Kyle  —  Carnegie Mellon University  —  Austin, TX (St. Stephen’s Episcopal School)

Sophomore James Kyle of Carnegie Mellon University swept the diving events at the Kenyon College Relays. He scored 268.15 points on the one-meter board and 293.25 in the three-meter dive to place first in both events.

Athlete of the Week selections are drawn from nominees submitted by member institution coaches and sports information directors. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
