Athletes of the Week for December 2, 2019

Women’s Basketball

Blair Ripley  —  Emory University  —  Oak Park, IL (Oak Park and River Forest)

Junior Blair Ripley tallied a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting as Emory University defeated host Sewanee: The University of the South, 68-46. She added a season-high 11 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season and contributed a game-high three blocks.

Janean Cuffee  —  NYU  —  New York, NY (The Lawrenceville School)

Junior Janean Cuffee scored 34 points, including a three-pointer to open the scoring in overtime, as NYU defeated Wesleyan University, 93-91 on Sunday. In just 21 minutes, she hit four 3-pointers and netted 16 points in the Violets’ 103-50 victory over Baruch College on Wednesday.

Men’s Basketball

Cade Hoppe  — NYU  —  El Dorado Hills, CA (Oak Ridge)

Sophomore forward Cade Hoppe recorded career-highs in points, rebounds, and blocks to help lead NYU to an 88-73 win at Rosemont College. He hit 11 of 17 field goals and finished with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocks.

Jack Nolan  — Washington University  —  Downers Grove, IL (Benet Academy)

Junior guard Jack Nolan averaged 24.0 points, hitting 10 three-pointers, as 15th-ranked Washington University picked up a pair of wins. He scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Bears to a 73-70 home win over 17th-ranked Augustana College on Sunday. Nolan shot 56.3 percent in the two contests.

Women’s Fencing

Jessica Morales  —  Brandeis University  —  Wilmington, MA (Wilmington)

First-year fencer Jessica Morales posted a team-best seven wins in the sabre at the Brandeis University Invitational on Sunday. She finished 7-3 with a 3-0 mark against St. John’s University, 2-0 against Yale University, and 2-1 versus Cornell University.

Men’s Fencing

Lucas Lin  — Brandeis University  —  Plano, TX (Plano West)

Brandeis University sophomore Lucas Lin led the Judges’ sabre squad to a 3-2 mark at their home invitational. He posted a 3-0 mark that led to a 5-4 upset win in the weapon over Harvard University in the Judges’ 16-11 team loss.

They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
