#15 Tartans Topped 5-4 by Division I Saint Francis

(VALENCIA, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis program, ranked15th in Division III, hosted Division I Saint Francis University on Friday indoors at Lakevue Athletic Club in Valencia, Pennsylvania, for its third match of the season. The Red Flash came from behind to top the Tartans, 5-4. The Tartans are now 2-1 for the season.

Saint Francis won the first point of the match at second doubles before the Tartans took a 2-1 advantage with wins by the third doubles pair of freshmen Michael Fourchy (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis North) and Brandon Aprill (Mountain View, Calif. / The Menlo School) and the first doubles pair of senior Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass. / Acton Boxborough Regional) and sophomore Jonathan Nottngham (Philadelphia, Pa. / Masterman High School). Fourchy and Aprill played together for the first time and won 8-6 ahead of Boppana and Nottingham who won their second match together by an 8-5 score.

Aprill was the first to finish singles action when he won his first collegiate singles match in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, in the third position.

The Red Flash then tied the match at 3-all with wins at sixth singles and second singles and took the lead with a victory at first singles.

Freshman Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) gave the Tartans life with a 6-2, 6-4 win at fourth singles to move to 2-0 in singles play for the season before the Red Flash pulled out a win at fifth singles to take the match.

The Tartans will face the College of Wooster on Saturday, March 20 for two matches beginning at 12:00 p.m. on their home court.
