Leopards Take On Carnegie Mellon University

La Verne, CA: The University of La Verne Leopards dropped both games in a doubleheader against Carnegie Mellon University.

Game One

The Leopards offense scored an early run in the first inning when Kat Navarro drove in Taylor Gray on a sacrifice fly. The Tartans countered with a run in the second inning to even the score at 1-1. Rachel Rubio gave her best effort keeping the score at 1-1 until the 7th inning. Rubio had racked up 5 strikeouts through the 6.1 innings of work. Carnegie Mellon finally got to Rubio in the 7th and scored 6 runs to take a commanding lead and eventually win the game 7-1.

Game Two

The Leopards and Tartans battled in another pitchers duel with the game scoreless through the first four innings. Katelyn Shephard had 5 strikeouts through the first four innings. Shephard ended the night with a career high 7 punchouts. The Tartans led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning when Ashley Rodriguez tripled to right-center field and promptly scored on a fielding error by the third baseman to tie the game at 1-1. Two pitches later, Marissa Acosta hit a solo homerun to deep left field to give the Leopards a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for the Leopards, the Tartans fought back and took a 3-2 lead in the 7th inning and La Verne could not battle back and lost 3-2.
