#5 Tartans Run Win Total to 15 with a Pair of Victories Sunday

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth nationally, continued its winning ways on Sunday with a 9-0 victory over McMurry University and a 7-2 win over 13th-ranked Kenyon College. The two wins run the Tartans streak to six straight and are now 15-2 overall.

The day started against McMurry, as it was the third straight shutout win for the Cardinal and Gray. The Tartans top doubles team of senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) started the scoring with a 6-1 win. The second doubles team of senior Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) won 6-0 followed by a 6-1 victory from junior Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and sophomore Beata Liberchuk (Edgewater, N.J. / Dwight-Englewood).

Prosets were played in singles with freshman Madeline Fidel (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North) winning 8-1 at the four spot and Zheng sealing the win with an 8-0 win at second singles.

In the Tartans win over Kenyon, Rao teamed with sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and won 8-3 at second doubles. The Tartans third duo of Iordache and Zheng won 8-4, as Carnegie Mellon took a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

Liberchuk made the score 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at six singles. Zheng then won 6-0, 7-5 at third singles followed by Taylor winning 6-4, 6-2 a one singles to clinch the match for the Tartans.

The Tartans will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they play University Athletic Association counterpart and third-ranked Emory University at 2:00 p.m.
