Tartans Successful in Singles Play During Home Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Duquesne University and a few players from Saint Francis University of Pennsylvania for its annual invitational on Friday, September 27 and Sunday, September 29.

Robert Levin (Virginia Beach, Va. / Princess Anne) had a trio of wins for the weekend, winning 8-4 against Dassanayake of Duquesne on Friday and 6-2, 6-1 against freshman Nicolas Doria Medina and 7-5, 6-4 against junior Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal of Duquesne on Sunday.

Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) won three singles matches for the weekend, topping Rodriguez-Vidal 8-7 (7-4) on Friday with a 6-2, 6-1 against senior Jared Isaacs and a 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 win against junior Alex Mascioli on Sunday.

Leo Wang (San Marino, Calif. / San Marino High School) won 8-3 against sophomore Graham Conron of Duquesne on Friday and 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 against freshman Jin Dassanayake of Duquesne on Sunday.

Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) picked up two wins on Sunday in singles play, 0-6, 6-4, 10-3 against Matthews and 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 against Medina.

Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) won 8-6 against junior Joey Matthews of Duquesne.

The Tartans will next compete at the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament on Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6 at the University of Mary Washington.
