The men's soccer team suffered a season-opening 3-1 home loss to the Violets of New York University on Friday afternoon at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

The visiting Violets from the University Athletic Association (UAA) started strong and built a 2-0 after 28 minutes of play. Vegas Kastberg scored first in the 13th minute on a shot 18 yards out from the top of the box, while Liam Stimpson added the second in the 29th minute with a goal just inside the right post.

They scored quickly again after the halftime break with Reece Barton taking a through ball inside the box from Stimpson to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one for the 3-0 lead.

Despite the huge deficit, the Bearcats did battle back with William Rosales firing home a goal into the upper right corner off a cross from Kevin Romero to cut the score to 3-1.

The Bearcats did have a penalty kick opportunity to increase their momentum in the second half, but could not convert as the non-conference match would finish 3-1.

The Bearcats will next hit the road on Wednesday, September 3 with a 4:00 pm non-conference match at Farmingdale State College of the Skyline Conference on Long Island.
