UR 3-1 at Cortland Tourney After Two More Wins

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Rochester posted victories over host SUNY Cortland (3-1) and then Vassar College (3-0) to finish at 3-1 in the SUNY Cortland Red Dragon Tournament on Saturday.
 
With the 3-1 record, the Yellowjackets tied with Stockton University for second place behind undefeated Juniata College (4-0). On Friday, Rochester defeated Stockton, 3-2, then lost to SUNY Oneonta, 3-0. Seven teams finished with 2-2 records and two others were 0-2.
 
Rochester defeated Cortland, 25-19, 25-12, 14-25, 25-17. In the final match of the day, the Yellowjackets defeated Vassar, 25-20, 25-20, 28-26. In the last game, Rochester fell behind Vassar, 10-16, before rallying to win and complete the 3-0 victory.
 
Clara Martinez was the kills leader for UR vs. Cortland. She had 10. Megan McHugh had six kills as did Kate Korslund. Alara Kocak had five kills. Courtney Vidovich had 20 digs. Korslund had eight digs and Beth Ghyzel contributed six digs plus 15 assists. UR's assist leader was Renae Lapins with 16, plus two service aces.
 
Four Yellowjackets had six or more kills against Vassar. Kocak was the leader with 12. Martinez had eight plus four blocks. Korslund had seven kills. Kayla Sell had six kills.
 
Lapins registered 25 assists. Ghyzel ad 15 assists and five blocks. Vidovich compiled 28 digs.
 
Martinez was selected to the all-tournament team.
 
UR returns to campus to host its Yellowjacket Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Yellowjackets will play Frostburg University at 4 pm, Hamilton College at 8 pm on Friday in the Palestra.
