The Emory University baseball team fell to No. 4 ranked Birmingham-Southern College, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Piedmont College but moved to Emory's campus due to Saturday's snowstorm in northern Georgia.

The Eagles mustered a first inning run before the bats were silenced over the final eight frames as the Panthers improved to 2-0 while dropping the Eagles to 1-1. BSC's Tristan Harvin and Hansen McCown combined for the one-run victory with McCown earning the win with three scoreless frames in relief in his collegiate debut.

Sophomore Jack Brodsky drew the start for Emory, holding the Panthers to no runs in five strong innings. He struck out five, walked three and gave up three base hits.

Birmingham-Southern scratched across four runs late, including the go ahead runs in the eighth and ninth innings off senior James Robertson and freshman Jackson Pentz.

Senior Richard Brereton provided the home team's lone run of the game, driving in junior Michael Edelman with a groundout to third. Edelman and junior Caleb Shulman led the Emory offense on the afternoon as the duo combined for four of the team's seven hits in the contest.

The Eagles held the defending national runner-ups scoreless until the sixth inning before BSC pushed across the tying run against junior Jack Moore on a sac fly after the first batters of the inning reached base safely. The run snapped Emory's 14 innings scoreless to begin the season, the third longest scoreless streak by an Eagle team to lead off a season in team history.

Emory travels to Montgomery, Alabama next weekend to take on Millsaps, Lynchburg and Huntingdon at Huntingdon's weekend tournament. Action begins Friday against the Majors in a 2:00 PM EST first pitch.
