Scarlet Hawks Go 1-1 With #4 Maroons and Knights

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis team embarked on a pair of matches on Saturday at #4 University of Chicago, followed by a night cap against Calvin College at the XS-Tennis Center. The Scarlet Hawks dropped a 9-0 decision to the Maroons, and rebounded with a 6-3 victory over the Knights.

The split sends Illinois Tech's record to 3-7 overall.

University of Chicago 9, Illinois Tech 0 

The Scarlet Hawks's first outdoor match of the season didn't result in an individual victory as the Maroons ran away with a 9-0 win at the Stagg Tennis Courts. 

Illinois Tech 6, Calvin 3

The Knights exited doubles with a 2-1 lead as Davis Housman/Andy Fang picked up the Scarlet Hawks' lone victory with an 8-2 decision over Daniel Huan/Kyrus Tsai. 

The singles flight was all Illinois Tech as they were victorious in the top three spots. Roman Shishlov registered a 7-6, 6-1 decision over Jose Larrea in the #1 spot, followed by Davis Housman's 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of Max Stallings in #2 singles. Alann Torres pulled off the trifecta with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kyrus Tsai in #3 singles.

Adam Laitinen tallied a thrilling 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 win over Cobe Benzel in the #5 slot, while Brody Croonquist was victorious in #6 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Daniel Huan.

The Scarlet Hawks will hit the Sunshine State on Monday, March 16 against Franklin & Marshall University in Orlando, Florida. Start time is set for 7:00 a.m. (CT).
