The Emory University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie Friday night against Case Western Reserve University at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, OH.

After an uneventful first half, the tides turned over the final 45 minutes of regulation with the two University Athletic Association schools combining for four goals including two goals in the final seven minutes of play.

CWRU struck first as Seldon Magruder took advantage of an Emory turnover deep in the zone, breaking the scoreless tie with his unassisted goal in the 51st minute.

Two minutes later, the Eagles earned a break as the Spartans' Garrett Winter was sent packing as he was issued a red card, dropping the CWRU eligible players on the field to 10 for the remainder of the contest.

Emory was finally able to capitalize on the man advantage, pushing across the equalizer in the 73^rd minute as junior Max Mehlman used his body to knock in the far cross by sophomore Will Tichy on the near post. The goal was the first of his career.

The Eagles had several strong scoring chances over the next few minutes with sophomore Ethan Cohen and senior Keegan McCombie being denied seconds apart in the 76^th minute and one minute later, junior Josh Berman's header attempt was stopped by an unbelievable one-handed save by the Spartans' Jackson Kallen.

Case Western Reserve appeared to have scored the game-winner in the 83^rd minute as a straight-on shot by Zachary Senft following the back-tap pass by Magruder went through the arms of junior Cole Gallagher and into the back of the net.

But Cory Greiner's bunch did not go quietly as freshman Zach Kornblum tied the game with 2:01 remaining in regulation with a flying, karate-style tap-in to tie the score. The goal was first of his career while Mehlman earned the assist on the play.

In overtime, Emory continued to apply pressure, outshooting the Spartans 8-3 with the strongest opportunity for either side coming by junior Nate Sampson in the 106^th minute. Sampson sent a blistering, curving shot to the right post but another great, diving save by Kallen denied the go-ahead strike.  

For the game, the Eagles dominated the shots with a 35-15 margin including 11-7 edge in shots on goal. Emory also held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles, now 7-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the UAA, make the trek to Pittsburgh for a Sunday afternoon meeting against the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.
