Tartans Play Road Contest at Division II Gannon
(ERIE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon volleyball team traveled north to Erie, Pennsylvania, to play the ninth-ranked team in Division II Gannon University on Saturday afternoon. Gannon won 3-1 by the scores 25-14, 25-8, 23-25, 25-16. The Tartans are now 3-1 while the Knights remain perfect on the season at 16-0. Carnegie Mellon was just the fifth opponent that forced a fourth set against Gannon this season.
Senior Diana Balta (Media, Pa. / Penncrest) and freshman Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) led the Cardinal and Gray with six kills each while junior Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) ended with five. Sophomore Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas / Coppell) handed out 23 assists and recorded a team-best 16 digs.
Senior Julia Kim (Centreville, Va. / Chantilly) along with Balta had 13 digs with junior Erin Westberg (Cary, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) also tabbing double-digit digs with 10. At the next, Beaudoin led with four block solos and one block assist, as Balta had two block solos and one assist. Dean added three block assists.
The Tartans will conclude their season on Sunday, April 18 when Penn State-Behrend travels to Pittsburgh for a 1:00 p.m. match.
