GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team received a 71-55 setback on Monday night when Washington-St. Louis came to H.J. Long Gymnasium and gave the Panthers just their second loss of the year.

Greenville led briefly, 2-0, in the opening moments of the game, but three consecutive three-pointers from Washington gave them a 9-2 lead that they would not relinquish.  The Panthers trailed 20-10 after the first quarter.

In the second period, the Bears opened a 23 point advantage with 4:24 to play before Greenville cut the lead by seven to go to the intermission.  It was 42-26 in Washington's favor at halftime.

The third quarter saw Greenville cut the deficit to seven points when the Panthers scored the first nine points of the period, but the Bears managed to increase their lead to double digits at 54-43 by the conclusion of the third stanza.  Greenville outscored Washington 17-12 in the third quarter.

The Panthers reduced the lead to nine in the fourth quarter, but Washington outscored Greenville 17-12 in the final quarter to seals the 16 point win.

Jantzen Michael was Greenville's leading scorer in the game with 14 points.

Emily Brandland had a nice outing with 10 points and nine rebounds despite missing time when she picked up her fourth foul in the third quarter.

The Panthers made just 16-of-50 shots to end with a 32 percent mark from the field.  They were better behind the three-point arc, making 7-of-20 to finish at 35 percent.

The Bears size caused Greenville matchup problems, and the Panthers were outrebounded 50-34 in the paint.

The Panthers (4-2) travel to Jacksonville on Friday to play St. Mary-of-the-Woods at 6 p.m. in MacMurray's tournament.
