Women's Basketball Bounces Back; Steamrolls Pomona-Pitzer, 88-54, to Complete California Trip

Sophomore Tori Huggins scored 15 of her career-high 24 points in the second half as she and the Emory University women's basketball team capped off their California trip with an 88-54 drubbing of Pomona-Pitzer College Saturday afternoon in Claremont, CA.

Huggins highlighted four Eagles in double figures as she finished 10-of-17 from the floor. Huggins added a game-high 10 rebounds en route to securing her second double-double of the season. Junior Blair Ripley notched 15 points in 18 minutes of action while senior Allison Chernow had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and doled out a season-high seven assists. Sophomore Anna Arato rounded out the Emory high marks with 11 points, her third contest with 10 or more points this season.

The Eagles began the game knocking down their first five shots and finished the opening stanza shooting 11-of-15 from the floor as Emory outpaced the Sagehens, 26-19. Following the halftime break where Emory led 44-31, the Eagles went on the gmae's decisive run to open the third quarter, posting a 14-2 burst which included six from Huggins to put the game out of reach. Emory finished the third with a 22-10 edge to gain a 66-41 advantage and saw its lead balloon to as many as 39 points in the fourth.

For the game, the Eagles shot 50.7% (36-for-71) and were 10-for-23 from deep. Emory also saw a 28-18 edge in rebounding during the second half as it outrebounded PPC 41-38 in the game.

The Eagles return to the southeast and will close out the month of November Tuesday night (Nov. 26) on the road against Sewanee. Opening tip is slated for 6:00 PM EST / 5:00 PM PST.
