The Emory softball team closed out a four-game series at Case Western Reserve by splitting a Sunday doubleheader.  The Eagles won the opening contest, a 10-7 slugfest, before the Spartans came away with a 3-2 decision in the series finale.  Emory now stands 26-10 overall, 12-4 in the University Athletic Association.

Junior Sami Feller was one of the hitting stalwarts for Emory in the first game, going 4-for-5 at the plate which included her first home run of the campaign, a solo shot in the top of the second that staked Emory to a 1-0 advantage.  The Eagles spread out their 13-hit attack with nine players hitting safely including freshman Mattie Ryan who went 2-for-5 (ninth multi-hit game of the season) with one RBI.  With the game knotted at 1-1, Emory exploded for six runs in its half of the fourth, started by freshman Megan Weisenberg whose double scored pinch runner Mallory Nolen.   Later on, junior Jessy McLean cleared the bases with a triple that extended the Eagles to a 5-1 margin.  Emory would tack on two more runs, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by junior Sarah Katz and single by Natalie Arreguin.  Case struck back in the bottom of the frame, crossing the plate five times that narrowed its deficit to one run.  After each team scored once in the sixth, the Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh when a two-out double by Katz scored freshman Krista Colussi from second.  Katz then crossed the plate when junior Greta Wilker laced a double to right center.  Senior Madeline Maday earned the win, her seventh in 10 decisions, tossing the first 3 1/3 innings, while sophomore Madision Schaefer was credited with the save after throwing a scoreless seventh inning.

Emory used some two-out magic to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, using a single by Feller followed by a two-bagger by Wilker, to account for the game's first tally.  The Spartans countered with two runs in the bottom half, thanks to a two-run homer by Nicole Carty. After CWRU added a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles looked to stir up another late-inning comeback similar to Saturday's second game, scoring a run via a Case Western throwing error and having the tying run on third with two out.  However, the Spartans worked out of the jam which allowed them to salvage one game in the series.  Despite throwing a complete game, Schaefer was saddled with the setback, her fourth in 15 outings, allowing five hits while striking out four.

Still with a shot at the winning the UAA title, the Eagles return to action next Friday (Apr. 26) when its plays the first two of a four-game series at league leader Brandeis (25-2-1; 10-2 UAA).  The series against the Judges closes out the regular season for Emory.
