Emory Baseball Drops Mid-Week Game at #3 Birmingham-Southern

The Emory University baseball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night, losing to No. 3 ranked Birmingham-Southern in Birmingham, AL.

The Eagles scored eight runs for the third straight game but it was not enough to keep pace with the high-powered BSC offense as Emory fell in the non-conference matchup by a score of 19-8. Emory drops to 9-7 on the year with Birmingham-Southern improving to 11-2.

The Panthers scored in six of their eight offensive innings including a seven-run third and three runs in three consecutive middle innings.

The Eagles scored eight runs on 10 hits and had a five-run fifth inning that was highlighted by a grand slam from senior Robby Wacker. Wacker was one of four Eagles with two hits in the game and had one of the team's two extra base hits. Junior Ellis Schwartz was 2-for-3 with two walks, two steals and launched his first round tripper of the season.

Seven different pitchers made their way to the mound on Wednesday as the Eagles went with a full bullpen game. Freshman Connor Skertich drew his first career start, working two full innings and allowing three runs and striking out two. Sophomore Matthew Culbert took the loss, moving to 1-2 after giving up four in a third of an inning.

Emory looks to rebound Friday as the team begins a three-game series with Piedmont University. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
