Emory Baseball Plates 25 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep at Piedmont

The Emory University baseball team plated 25 runs across the doubleheader Sunday afternoon as the Eagles swept Piedmont University at Loudermilk Field in Demorest, GA.

With the Sunday twinbill sweep, Emory improves to four games over .500 at 11-7 while the two losses drops Piedmont to 8-8-1 on the season.

The Eagles are set to be back in action Tuesday afternoon as they play host to LaGrange College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Game 1 – Emory 11, Piedmont 6

Eight of the nine members of the starting lineup collected at least one hit at the dish as the Eagles won the opener by five runs.

Junior Jack Masonis and freshman Josh Katz combined to drive in five of the team's 11 runs with Masonis leading the way with three RBI in a 1-for-5 game. Masonis and Katz each had two-run base hits in Emory's five-run sixth inning to break the game open.

Adding big hits for the Eagles were junior Henry Pelinski and sophomore Tyler McLoughlin as both sluggers belted home runs in the contest. Pelinski opened the game with a solo dinger to start Emory's four-run second frame with McLoughlin smacking a solo home run of his own in the ninth for the eagles' final run of the game.

Senior Jack Moore remained unbeaten on the bump as he worked 6.2 innings and struck out a season-high seven hitters. Moore allowed three runs (2 ER) on five hits and walked three.

Game 2 – Emory 14, Piedmont 5

The Emory offense continued to roll in the night cap, recording 14 runs on 10 hits, marking the sixth time this season the Eagles reached double figures in the run column.

Masonis continued his big day with four more RBI as he went 2-for-4 with a double and in his first start of the season, sophomore Walker Woolf went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a team-best three runs scored. Woolf was one of six Eagles who crossed home plate at least twice in the win. Senior Zeke Diamond tallied a team-best three hits, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and stole home for Emory's first run of the game in the first inning.

With the score knotted at 5-5 heading into the seventh, the Eagles had back-to-back four run innings to bust open the game. Four different Eagles brought a run home in the seventh with senior Robby Wacker delivering the go ahead run with a single to plate Diamond.

Senior Kyle Sulkowski was once again tremendous out of the pen as he retired seven of the nine men he faced in 2.1 hitless innings, striking out four as he improved to 2-0. Sulkowski along with Derek Livingston and Zac Schultz combined to spin 4.2 scoreless innings of relief as the Eagles won by nine.
