Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University softball team hosted the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday evening, splitting the series, falling in game one 4-0. The Tigers rallied in game two, with an 11-3 run-rule decision over the visitors. After tallying just one hit to start the day, the Wittenberg offense came alive in game two, notching 17 hits and scoring in every inning. The Tiger offense was led by Clara Andersen finishing 4 for 4 with two RBI's and two runs scored for the Red and White. Elise Freeland, Megan Niswonger, Sam Lindsey, and Elaina Adams each tallied multiple hits in the second slate against the Spartans, while every Tiger in the starting line-up reached base safely.

Game Breakdown

The Spartans were the first to strike in game two, hoping to keep their momentum rolling, coming off of the game one win. Wittenberg responded by scoring a run in each of the first two innings to knot things back up at 2-2. The Tiger offense began to heat up in the third inning, plating three runs, beginning with a bunt single by Alex Gibson that brought home Andersen. Lindsey later stepped in and drove home Brianna Busic on the sacrifice fly to left. Mary Britton capped off the Tiger scoring rally with a double in the gap in right-center, bringing home Gibson for the third Wittenberg run of the inning. Andersen kept the rally rolling in the fourth, with an RBI single to right scoring Freeland, giving Wittenberg the 6-3 advantage. Gibson cleared the bases as the Spartans infield misplayed the groundball, allowing three Tiger runs to score and Gibson ended up on third. Wittenberg added one more run each in the fifth and sixth inning, with Julia Burch driving in Freeland and Lindsey.

Kira van Ravensberg picked up her first collegiate victory, tossing all six innings for the Red and White, allowing seven hits, and striking out two.
