HAMBURG, NY – The women's volleyball team hosted their first non-conference tri-match of the season October 11.  Hiram College (18-3) swept both Hilbert College and the University of Rochester in three straight sets, while the Yellowjackets from Rochester handed Hilbert an opening morning loss.  The Hawks (2-20) were led at the net by sophomore Amanda Binder (22 kills) and defensively by seniors Jordan Botsford's  and Kayla Lewis' 16 digs.

Hilbert (2-20) opened the morning slowly in the first game against Rochester.  The Yellowjackets took a 25-13 win then held on for 25-22 and 25-20 sets.   Hilbert jumped on Rochester early in the second set and held an 18-12 lead before Rochester called a timeout.  The visitors tied it up at 19's and both teams traded points until Rochester was up 24-22.  After a quick Hilbert timeout, the visitors hit for the second-set win.  The third set played out much like the middle set with the Hawks gaining an early lead before Rochester slowly crept back for a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Binder and Botsford each reached 10.  The outside hitter in kills and the Hawks All Time Dig leader in scoop-ups.  As Hilbert was credited with only 18 kills, Lewis posted a team high eight for the match.

Hiram tacked on two more wins by the end of the day to improve to 18-3 overall.  They controlled the net both as hitters and as blockers against Rochester.  The Terriers finished with 35 kills (.298) and only seven hitting errors while tallying eight total blocks.  Rochester worked for 27 kills but also ended with 23 hitting errors and zero blocks.

Lindsey Brewer reached double-digit kills (10) while Regina Zyle had 21 digs and Tierra Moore assisted 33 times for Hiram.  Jennie Ford earned 11 kills and two Yellowjackets were credited with double digs – Ashley Hunter and Nia Baek.

The tone in the third match of the day was much looser that the first set of games.  Hiram's strong powerful hitting from the early match was not there against the Hawks. The Hawks were competitive and challenged the visitors causing panic at times.  The Terriers escaped with 25-16, 25-20 and 25-18 wins for the second victory over the Hawks this season.

Binder reached for 12 kills but also had a team high seven hitting errors.  Morgan Ott served as the primary setter in the last match and quarterbacked the offense with 14 assists freeing up Lewis to get to a team-high 12 digs.  Binder (2) and Ott (1) earned the Hawks only solo blocks of the day.

Hilbert returns to action Wednesday, October 15 when they host AMCC leaders, Penn State Behrend (16-8, 3-1) in the athletic departments Pink-Out Night celebration.  Fans can share in the fun by viewing the 7 pm streamed game (
