Women's tennis drops West Coast opener, 6-3, at Caltech

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Brandeis University women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches, but couldn't hang on in singles action as the Judges dropped a 6-3 decision to host CalTech on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Judges fall to 1-3, while the Beavers improve to 2-1.

Brandeis fell behind after losing at #3 doubles, 8-1. The Judges bounced back at #2, as senior Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill. / Boylan Central Catholic) and sophomore Ella Subramanian (Parkland, Fla. / Laurel Springs) picked up an 8-2 victory. The first-year tandem of Bhakti Parwani (Ahmedabad, India / Kumkum School) and Sabrina Loui (Honolulu, Hawaii / Punahou School) gave the Judges the edge with an 8-7 (7-2) victory at the top spot.

The Judges battled in singles action, but ultimately lost five of the six matches. The lone win came at #1, where Parwani rallied to defeat Anna Tifrea for the second time, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Nikita Salkar (Mumbai, India / Mourataglou Tennis Academy) dropped a close match at #3, 0-6, 6-3, 10-8, while Loui was edged at #4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Brandeis returns to action on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Eastern (8 Pacific) when they take on the University of Redlands.
