FSC Falls to #5 Carnegie Mellon at Misericordia Cougar Classic

#5 Carnegie Mellon - 3, Farmingdale State - 0


Dallas, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team fell to #5 ranked Carnegie Mellon, 3-0, this afternoon on the first day of the Misericordia Cougar Classic. The Rams dropped to 1-2 overall, while the Tartans remain perfect at 4-0.

After both teams combined for just one shot on goal in the first 30 minutes, Carnegie Mellon got on the board in the 31st minute on a goal from freshman forward Maria Askounis (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.).

The game remained 1-0 into the halftime break as the Tartans held an 8-0 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.

At 52:41 in the second half, sophomore midfielder Cecelia Dieterich (South Paris, Maine) scored her fifth of the season off the assist from junior forward Alex Adams (Pittsburgh, Penn.) to put Carnegie Mellon on top, 2-0.

Just 3:07 later, the Tartans took a 3-0 lead on an unassisted score by senior midfielder Marissa McAfee (Cumming, Ga.)

Carnegie Mellon held the Rams to just one shot down the stretch as they went on for the 3-0 victory.

FSC goalkeepers Lindsey Jolly (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Chloe Kensell (Monroe, N.Y.) split time in net and made three saves apiece.

Farmingdale State returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 12th when they play Shenandoah at 1:00 p.m.
