Jack Brodsky Racks Up 11 Strikeouts as Baseball Holds On; Defeats Mary Washington, 8-7

The Emory University baseball team survived a late-inning rally to defeat the University of Mary Washington, 8-7, Friday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Leading 8-1, the Eagles of UMW mounted a late charge, scoring twice in the eighth and four times in the ninth before freshman Aaron Mishoulam nailed down his second career save with a strikeout and groundout to work out of a bases loaded jam.

Sophomore Jack Brodsky was the lead story in the contest as the Woodcliff Lake, NJ native struck out a career-best 11 batters as he pitched into the eighth inning. Brodsky was flawless through his first seven frames, allowing one run on five hits before four straight hits to begin the eighth sullied his otherwise fine outing. With the win, Brodsky takes over the team lead in victories, improving to 3-0.

Offensively, senior Jacob Greene, junior Jack Rubenstein and freshman Jack Masonis combined for six of the team's eight hits as the trio all collected two hits each. Greene belted another home run in his 2-for-4 effort while Masonis had an extra base hit with a double in his 2-for-4 line. Junior Jacob Singer went 1-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

For UMW, the Eagles racked up 14 hits total with Canon Davies, Garrett Lyons and Jonathan Sedmak all turning in three-hit days. Davies also drove in a game-high three RBI in the losing effort.

The weekend series between the two teams concludes tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader at the Chappell Park. First pitch of the twin bill is scheduled for 11:30 AM.
