Eagles Reach Finals of Three Draws on Day Two of Elon Invitational

The Emory University women's tennis team saw two players advance to the finals of their respective draws and one doubles tandem do the same as action continued at the Elon Fall Invitational Saturday afternoon in Elon, NC.

In the Powell draw, freshman Stephanie Shulman collected two straight set wins on Saturday, first defeating Elon's Kiana Rizzolo 6-1, 6-4 before besting Presbyterian's Sam Calais 6-0, 6-3 to reach the finals where she will face PC's Katie Thompson on Sunday.

In the Oak draw, freshman Katelyn Thomas knocked off both her opponents via straight sets, first Gardner Webb's Adrianna Vesely 6-1, 6-2 before posting a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Mercer's Anna Sovic. Thomas will face Mercer's Sarah Hyunh on Sunday.

In the Gold doubles bracket, Shulman teamed with sophomore Emma Cartledge to defeat USC Upstate's Armani/Cevallos pairing, 6-1, to reach the finals of the draw. The Emory duo will go up against a team from Gardner Webb tomorrow.

Junior Sasha Hartje reached the semifinals of the Oak draw with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Radford's Camryn McClure before being bounced by Hyunh in the semifinals 7-5, 7-6(4). The Eagles added singles consolation wins on the afternoon by Cartledge (6-1, 7-6 (2)) and junior Stephanie Taylor (1-6, 6-2, 10-6).

Rounding out the day's winners were doubles teams of sophomore Christina Watson and freshman Alexa Goetz in the Maroon consolation round (6-2) and Hartje and junior Katie Chang in the consolation final of the Powell draw, 6-3.

The Elon Fall Invitational concludes Sunday afternoon with the final matches of singles and doubles competition.
