Women's Tennis Downs Carnegie Mellon in Top-5 Matchup

The No.-3 ranked Emory University women's tennis team snapped its brief two-game skid Tuesday afternoon, defeating No.-5 ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 7-2, at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, FL.

The Eagles began their spring break trip with two of three victories coming in the doubles portion before taking five of the six singles matches.

In doubles, the freshman duo of Alexa Goetz and Katelyn Thomas remained unbeaten in the spring as they improved to 8-0 with an 8-3 decision at the third position. Emory added a win on court two as junior Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and sophomore Jessica Fatemi picked up the 8-6 victory.

Sophomore Emma Cartledge led off the singles competition with one of the team's four straight set triumphs, earning a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Fatemi was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at the sixth spot before Goetz clinched the match win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at third singles. Gonzalez-Rico added a straight set win on court one, posting a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Junior Defne Olcay rounded out the match with the team's seventh match win, claiming a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win at the second position.

Emory continues its spring break trip in Melbourne, FL with a matchup against Division I's Lehigh University. Action from Eastern Florida State College begins at 9:00 AM.
