WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University graduate student Mason Newman (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) tossed his third career complete game and first shutout today to lead the Judges past the visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards in a non-conference baseball game on Stein Diamond today. The win is the Judges' fifth in a row as they improve to 6-2 on the campaign. With the loss, Wentworth falls to 8-3.

Newman tossed a career-high nine innings, as his previous complete games went seven and eight frames. He struck out a career-high nine batters and did not walk anyone as 78 of his 100 pitches were strikes. Though Newman allowed eight hits and saw the visitors produce baserunners in seven of their nine innings, only two Leopard runners advanced past first base. The Judges also turned two double plays to minimize the danger. Newman improved to 2-1 on the season with the win.

Offensively, the Judges were led by graduate student CF Dan Frey (Ipswich, Mass./St. John's Prep), who went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI, a game after he drove in eight runs. Frey now has four straight multi-hit games and five in a row with a run batted in.

Grad student catcher Luke Hall (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a home run, his third of the season and 10th of his career. First-year DH Aidan Schleer (Sparta, N.J./Avon Old Farms, Conn.) went 2-for-3 for the team's only other multiple-hit game. Grad student 1B Mike Khoury (E. Bridgewater, Mass./E. Bridgewater) had the team's only other extra-base hit, an RBI double in the sixth inning that extended his hitting streak to seven in a row this season and 11 straight dating back to 2021. Khoury also has a run batted in in all but one game this season. He was named the NWBCA National Player of the Week earlier in the day.

WIT had eight hits spread among six batters, with DH Justin Kirst going 3-for-4 as the only multiple hitter for the Leopards. Started Brodi Farinas went three innings and gave up three hits, three walks, and three earned runs to shoulder the loss.

Brandeis returns to action on Friday, March 25, when they conclude a three-game series with Bates that started with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. First pitch is 4 p.m.
