Emory Volleyball Falls To Chicago At UAA Round Robin 3

The No. 1-ranked Emory University volleyball team came up short in its final match of the University Athletic Association Round Robin 3 on Sunday, dropping a hotly contested four-set match to Chicago.  The No. 3 Maroons raised their overall record to 21-1 (7-0 UAA) after battling to a 25-22, 26-28, 25-23, 25-19 over the Eagles who saw a 13-match win streak come to an end and its record slip to 19-2, 6-1 in the league.

Chicago became just the second team this year to finish with an advantage on hitting, finishing the match with a .304 (62-13—161) mark while the Eagles turned in an effort of .226 (60-23—164), with their kills totals their second-highest mark of the season. The Maroons held a 75-72 margin in digs and an 8-5 edge in total blocks.

Junior Leah Saunders led the Emory effort, notching her second straight and eighth double-double of the year with a match-high tying 15 kills and 10 digs. Senior Morgan McKnight and sophomore Tara Martin each chipped in 13 terminations with McKnight adding six digs and Martin hitting .303 (13-3—33).  Junior middle Maggie Rimmel added some punch to the offense with 12 successful attack attempts (second double-figure outing of the season) to go along with an attack percentage of .348 (12-4—23).  Rimmel also topped the club with three (1-2) total blocks.  Senior Elyse Thompson logged a team-high 19 digs and doled out three service aces, boosting her season total to 39 and career total to 143, good for 15th place on the program's all-time chart

The Eagles return to action on Friday when they host St. Mary's College (IN) in a 5:30 pm start.
