BRISTOL, R.I. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team went on the road and dominated the second quarter, outscoring host Roger Williams University by a 25-11 score, and the Judges put four players in double figures in scoring in an 83-63 win over the Hawks. With the win, Brandeis improves to 3-0 for the first time since 2015-16, while RWU falls to 2-1.

After an even first period that saw the teams tied at 16-all, Brandeis scored the first six points of the second stanza and never trailed again. The Judges also closed the stanza with the final seven points, capped by rookie Francesca Marchese's (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) 3-pointer that made it 41-27 at the break.

Brandeis shot 41.2% from the field (7-17) in the second quarter, including 57.1% (4-7) from beyond the arc. They also hit 70.0% (7-10) from the line.  Meanwhile, they held Roger Williams to just 28.6% (4-14) overall, 25.0% (1-4) from deep, and the Hawks hit just 28.6% from the line (2-7).

The Judges maintained their lead throughout the second half, winning the third by a 24-20 margin behind seven points from rookie Emma Reavis (Miami, Okla./Deerfield Academy) and 18-16 in the fourth thanks to eight points from junior guard Camila Casanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos).

For the game, the Judges finished with three different players scoring 13 points and another with 11. Senior forward Hannah Nicholson (Sunderland, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy) led the way with her first double-double of the season and the fifth of her career with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Nicholson finished one shy of her career rebounding high. Casanueva added 13 points and established a new career-high with nine assists, just missing out on her second career double-double. Reavis was the third Judge to reach 13 points, hitting 4-of-5 overall from the field, including both 3-point attempts, and 3-of-5 from the line as she established a new career scoring high. Junior forward Jillian Petrie (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) added 11 points and three steals.

Brandeis nearly had three other players reach double figures in scoring, as Marchese finished with nine points on three 3-pointers, junior Courtney Thrun (Regina, Sask. / Wilbraham and Monson Academy) had eight points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench, and junior Katherine Puda (Whitinsville, Mass./Worcester Academy) had eight points as well.

The Judges were excellent on the glass, outrebounding RWU, 54-38, including 23-17 on the offensive boards. They also owned a 25-12 edge in bench scoring.

Roger Williams was led by forward Karli Opalka, who also had a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Guard Gabby Jerahian matched Opalka for game-high scoring honors with 15 points, and guard Sam Leone contributed 11 points and three assists. No other Hawk payer had more than six points.

The Judges will look to improve to 4-0 for the first time in a decade on Saturday afternoon, but will face a challenge in #2-ranked Tufts, who will visit Waltham at 1 p.m.
