CORTLAND, N.Y. – Rochester split its first two matches of the SUNY Cortland Red Dragon Classic on Friday evening. In the first match, the Yellowjackets defeated Stockton University, 3-2. In the second match, UR lost to SUNY Oneonta, 0-3.
 
Stockton won the first set, 25-18. Rochester won the next two, 25-19, 25-18. Stockton won the fourth, 25-20 to set up a fifth set. UR dominated that set, winning 15-3.
 
The Yellowjackets had 14 aces against Stockton. Renae Lapins had five of the aces. Clara Martinez had 11 kills and hit .333. Alara Kocak had 12 kills, and Courtney Vidovich recorded 22 digs.
 
Oneonta won the second match, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16. Kocak had six kills against the Oneonta Red Dragons. Martinez had five. Beth Ghyzel had four kills. Melissa Welsh had three aces, and Sara Apanavicius had 10 digs.
 
On Saturday, Rochester plays the host Red Dragons of Cortland at 11 am and takes on Vassar College at 4 pm.
