Tartans Down Bowdoin to Close UAA/NESCAC Challenge

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team played Bowdoin in the second day of the 2022 UAA/NESCAC Challenge on Sunday at Rochester University and defeated the Polar Bears 79-66.

How it Happened
- The Tartans tailed 26-9 midway through the first half after the Polar Bears scored 15 straight points.
- Carnegie Mellon then closed the last seven minutes of the half on a 13-2 run and led 39-37 at the break.
- The second half started with neither team leading by more than one possession until the Cardinal and Gray rattled off nine straight points and led 58-47 with 9:12 to play.
- Carnegie Mellon continued to stay in control of the game and led by as many as 15 points before going on for the 79-66 victory.
Tartan Stats
- The Tartans shot 44.8% from the floor while converting 20-of-24 from the foul line for 83.3%.
- Junior R.J. Holmes led the Tartans tying a season-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor
- Sophomore Aidan Booher ended with a career-best 20 points after going perfect from behind the arc making all five of his attempts and converting 6-of-7 from the floor.
- Freshman Justin Allen recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
Polar Bear Stats
- James McGowan scored 13 points to lead the Polar Bears.
- Michael Simonds and Afamdi Achufusi both had 12 points.
Game Notes
- It was Holmes' third game this season with 20 or more points.
- Booher's five three-point baskets marked the second time this season a Tartan has made five in a contest.
